So you wrote songs normally like in usual daily life?
Koshi: Un, the most precise way to describe it is, I'd hum some tune and put in chords. Most of the songs were composed that way.
--- When do you write songs?
Koshi: When do I write songs...? When I'm in the hotel or... the time can't be decided. I wrote some at home too.
--- It's like when you realized, you were already in the middle of composing omething?
Koshi: Sou desu ne. I didn't specially make myself sit down and compose songs.
--- Not even let's get into 'song-writing' mode?
Koshi: Mostly not that way. I felt I was composing thing when I looked at the material. But it was all easily accomplished.
--- I feel very envious ne. If I don't tell myself 'Write something!' then I can't write.
Koshi: Iya, it's because I'm not doing something in a high dimension (laugh).
--- Iyaiya, my own dimension is not high at all (laugh).
Koshi: Why are you suddenly so humble? (laugh)
--- Because Inaba-san is so humble (laugh).
Everyone around laughed.
Koshi: Iyaiya laugh).

--- De, did you mean for "Shizuka Na Ame" lyrics to be like a drama scene?
Koshi: I can't recall how I wrote the lyrics for that song, completely.
--- Mataaa. (= again?)
Koshi: Hontou hontou. How did I write it... the lyrics...?
--- The beginning of the lyrics is very beautiful.
Koshi: Sou desu ne...
--- A drama before the real drama begins, maybe?
Koshi: I wanted to present the feeling of isolation... Even when the rain falls, its sound can't be heard, that kind of image.
--- What if the lady in the taxi opens up the window...?
Koshi: The world would go ashtray ne (laugh).
--- Your stand would be lost? (laugh)
Koshi: Ee~ (laugh). Somehow the situation felt airtight.

--- "I'm On Fire" is such an amazing song.
Koshi: Since you have given me your valuable statement, please write it in the article (laugh).
--- ゴシック体36級で(笑). Did you compose this on piano?
Koshi: This was on guitar. I did the arrangement with Ikeda-san, yappari we wanted to try it on piano.
--- So was it Ikeda-san's idea, to do it on piano?
Koshi: Iya, it was my idea. Like, play this chord on piano. That was mostly the way we did the arrangement.
--- Is there your own theme in this song?
Koshi: Ee...... I wanted to do a ballad, quiet type of a tune for a song with "I'm On Fire" as title, that's all.
--- When I heard that phrase I'm On Fire, I remembered Bruce Springsteen's concert back then, in which I happened to bump into you.
Koshi: Ee, when was that?!
--- The accoustic concert that Springsteen did at International Forum. About 8 years ago.
Koshi: Aa-, the one that made me have goosebumps all over. I got so scared (laugh). Ano, I got to learn the feeling of people in the front lines who got squeezed all the time (laugh).
--- だから「I'm On Fire」は決してコーヒーじゃないですよね、缶コーヒー(笑).
Koshi: Not at all, not at all (laugh). This doesn't burn with such showy flames.
--- Not in flames ne... not even sputtering smokes... more like it's burning quietly.
Koshi: Un.
--- This feeling of 'burning quietly' comes out very often ne. Therefore I feel that compare to B'z, Inaba-san's solo works are usually quieter, deeper in thoughts. For instance, some B'z songs give me the feeling of 'motivated' or 'deeply-touched'. Your solo works are slightly different, 'I'm gonna cry', that kind of feeling. What do you think?
Koshi: It's probably because I like to write such things that it has become a habit of sort and it all comes outpouring into solo works. And in B'z I'm definitely more of a 'lyricist' while here I'm like 'song-writer and lyricist'.
--- For instance, "Raging River" touched me deeply, but "Love Letter" makes me wanna cry.
Koshi: Touches you deeply and makes you wanna cry is totally different thing then? (laugh)
--- It is. The taste of the tune and possibly the choice of words. What's the difference with B'z?
Koshi: Maybe it is different. If you wanna look at it that way, for example with B'z I might go right, with solo works, I might purposefully go the left. That might have caused the feeling of difference.


Ok, I have no idea what those lines in Japanese means. What is Gothic level 36? And why are they talking about tin coffee? kakaka... this sounds very 0__o??? Komaru ne, sensei, TOTTEMO!!

Because Inaba-san is so humble Inaba-san's solo works are usually quieter, deeper in thoughts Who is the interviewer?? Sounds like someone who pays a lot of attention. Love Letter didn't make me want to cry though. I got to learn the feeling of people in the front lines who got squeezed all the time (laugh). Hey Sensei! Now you just have to learn the feeling of people near the front who fall onto the floor when you spit out water! I guess Koshi got a seat near the front, huh? Hehe.

keen-chan! thanks for all these translations! i love every bit, every line (applys to those previous ones too). love tak getting nervous towards 178's solo live! <3 juz like real brothers =D i'm so glad they've this kind of relationship :> "bad-club gym" was the live-gym title for b'z 1989 'tour' (after live-gym#00 "off the lock").. only 3 gyms~jun 1, 2 & 5.. i guess the ken couple went to b'z live-gyms since bad-club? ^^; again, i'm not sure haha ;p anyway, it's a lovely b'z encounter! envy envy! b'z so nice to their fans! & for shizuka na ame, 178 succeeded in delivering the kind of image he intended. at least to me ;p +tamashii+
