hehe, anything is possible with B'z. That's true, he's been singing about flying/soaring high to the sky, moving forward and being positive. That puzzlez however is something new. Yeah, what's the big idea behind BIG MACHINE? I'm sure the new be-with magazine will give us insight on that, if we can get our little hands on it that is. When the rest of BIG lyrics are up, I think we'll see more of those keywords. That's very good observation, WcB! I'm glad people are paying attention to Koshi's beautiful (sometimes silly) lyrics. He so deserves it! =p

Hi Becky, B'z Party (the official Fan Club) gave all their members 15th anniversary free surprise gifts, the Live-OFF book. I heard it's pretty thick too. Sasuga B'z. I guess they can pull off such budget. 600,000 photo books is no small feat! Last time in 1998, they sent out free VHS of 10-yr worth of B'z lives plus their own commentary. That was never released to public either, but bless the Japanese fans, it's all available for dwnl. It's a must-see video.

Ok, I know I'm crazy about BIG when I'm constantly hearing the songs in my mind after only one day not listening to it! I really like I'm in Love? now! The hard-rock part is so cool. And Wake Up always makes me happy (^-^) And who loves the supporting voices in Big Machine chorus? I love it when Koshi yelling in the background like that. Nanto kodomo-poi ne. I wish I can grasp the words though. Anyway, thank you, B'z for such good album!!!

I just have a quick question about BIG MACHINE. Is there a certain theme this album is about? It's supposed to be an anniversary album or something right? I've just noticed the references to "puzzles," in some of the songs. Also, there are a few instances in two different songs, that I know of, where Koshi sings something referring to "cutting through the wind"

Do these lyrics have a certain message? Is B'z the "puzzle" where two different pieces have come together to make something whole? Or am I just thinking too deeply? XD

Hey! First of all I love Big Machine! But I was checking out the B'z Brotherhood site and I saw pics from "B'z LIVE-OFF 1988-2003," but I only thought they released "B'z LIVE-ON 1988-2003"...which I bought. Yet, I don't see it listed at any online stores (ie: CD Japan, amazon.co.jp)...is it an actual release and if so where can I get it?

Hi Co co, no worries, the rest of BIG album will follow er- very soon (^-^). Translating Koshi's lyrics ranks as top priority task for me, even more than my own job, hehe =p Ano, I think I made a couple mistakes on I'm in Love? but now it's fixed.
I think Ai to Nikushimi~ is really romantic! He loves her so much and so protective of her that he hates her, lol! I dig that. Don't know how it strikes you guys.

Yeah Dave, to me in this album, Tak's way-too-short solos are Yasei~ and BIG~. Again, I don't mind short solos as long as they are like Atsuki~ or Ultra Soul. They live up satisfyingly to the songs.
But Tak can do anything he wants, I still love him with the intensity of 200w lightbulb. Ok, you will excuse that blind-adoration becoz now I'm listening to Arakure and imagining Tak doing Osaka-diva stunt in the upcoming Livegym Banzai. It gives me a big idiotic smile on my face. O Taaaak!
*goes to watch LOGIC* They simply MUST perform this!

To address the points made by everyone, but also by Benny and B2 respectively...

Guitar solos should match the mood of the song, but they should not be cut short for production either, that is CRIMINAL, and as many times as I have heard it done on American albums, to hear it done on a B'z album would really make me quite upset. I have not heard Big Machine, although a copy is on the way for me.

Tak plays a very thin line when it comes to length and mood and taste. Tak is a shredder, but does not come from that era and thinking. He has always had the ability to throw out impressive single note runs (Take Motel or Pleasure for instance), Neo Classical from his most apparent influence, Ritchie Blackmore (The last part of the solo from Anata no Kawamarani), and slow acoustic pieces (Itsuka no Merry Christmas). He can go for a very long solos as well (Track 8 from Brotherhood, the name escapes me now).

All in all, the early solo from Risky, In the Life, and RUN exemplify a lot of the 80's influence, but Tak plays to suit the mood. You will NEVER find a solo that does not work in context with the rest of the song, and very rarely does he venture into space from the basic underlying chords used in the song. He also tends to play in the major key, even when the music was more pop in nature. The major keys is always more effective for solos, especially those with a lot of emotion. In many of his articles, he has said that if he didn't use the major key in his solos, he'd be all thumbs because of his style, but we know this isn't true because he will go back and forth between major and minor with impunity!

To all of the NON guitar heads, lets just put it this way, sometimes less IS more. Sometimes more IS less. It depends on context. Raging River is a masterpiece, but so is Negai...each has a longer or shorter length solo, but each works in context, and isn't indescrimanant "wanking".

Alrite, that Banzai broadcast schedule is kinda annoying for me. It will be 10:30pm here and I must find an all-nite internet cafe? Gaaah, but I know I'll view it all the same.
Folks, we should arrange a group chat like last year. Let's do Yahoo this time. Does everyone agree on this? I think M is going to the 14th, so she can be with us for this one. YAY! So will the others who are going to Seattle and others. Anyone who plans to join the chat, please let me know =p Actually I need the chat desperately coz I'm really panicky and will definitely need guidance like usual *pleeease*

those pics from Nagisa-en can kill me. B'z should do specially rain-concerts. How can anybody look so good all drenched-wet like that? Sexy like you've never seen before huh, B-chan? that must be MIGHTY sexy coz I believe you've seen plenty of sexy Inaba. Wow, I've never used so many 'sexy's in one post before, LOL.

The message of Miss.Keen was seen after a long time, and it became happy, and came.
B'z is the 15th anniversary!
I participated in the beach garden live show on the 21st, too.
It piled up with typhoon No.15, and it was the terrible weather.
However, a live show was carried out as scheduled with fight of B'z.
A powerful wonderful scene was the live show left for the commemoration which it had, too.
It will seem to do a live show in America next month.
Does even the Internet seem to flow?
I do my best, too, and check it!
Then, come and see me again.

I've been reading a lot of opinions about whether we got short-changed concerning Matsumoto-san's guitar solos. This album, considering it's an anniversary one, shows a perfect blending of the 2 without allowing either to stand out too much. Showing them as they are - which is as a duo, or futari.

OK, I can't remember what I read some time ago, but I envisioned the album to be close to Brotherhood or Eleven. BUT! this album is sort of an extension of Green, IMO. It definitely rocks harder than Green but most songs are in major keys and sounds upbeat. Of course, Hard Rock = Minor key is NOT true, but.. I found 2 slower songs to be attention- getter not just because they are slow but the arrangements I thought were very cool, on Nightbird and Roots. Change, Diamond, Blusey, Wake up is cool, too. I only had 2 listens so far so...Yeah I agree that Tak needs to stretch his solos a little more, he gotta show off his taknical side. Banzai!

Ok, lol, I don't know what I just wrote up there. Sorry, Akiko-san, my Japanese is bad T_T I hope you can understand.

B2, I agree that the solo of Big Machine the song and Yasei No NRG are terribly short. I mean the opening sound so promising, especially Big, really like some big engines bustling busily, bloody cool, then a few notes and Koshi comes back. I was like, nani?!
But really, yeah, other songs have great solos. I'm really happy about them. Even the slower/medium tempo songs have great ones. Ai No Nikushimi could have used a slightly longer one too though -_-;; But I also don't want Tak to be the shred-type coz I do love some of his shortest solos like Ultra Soul or Atsuki Kodou No Hate. Despite the lack of length, they are beautiful and satisfying.
Anyway, don't everyone just looooove the intro of Bluesy, especially after that saddies Nightbird? It's just screams great atmosphere, er... rainy and cloudy kekeke.

Sent: 07.12 - 26/9

whether or not a solo is played a the right time or place really differs from person to person, so I'm not one to determine if a solo belongs where it is. I do feel that Tak's short solos on Big Machine are criminally short, because just as they get started and I'm anticipating something cool...they're over. however, his normal length solos are extremely good and I think they're some of his best since Brotherhood. how about the start of the solo in Wake up, Right now...if Koshi yelling "wake up!" doesn't get your attention, then that fast harmonized lick surely will!

Raging River really does have amazing solos. and just today I realized how defined the solo in Home is. it has a few bits in it that you don't hear too often from good ol' Tak.

Sent: 06.36 - 26/9

Benny, I agree with what you're saying on the guitar solos. Tak is just a solid technical guitar player, who knows how to make a great song. That's what makes B'z so great, neither Koshi or Tak outshine the other!

P.S. Raging River is my favorite guitar solo, of all time...and probably my favorite B'z song. :D

『Roots』

Thx keen, for the quick lyrics update for Roots, i just completely love that song.

Big Machine is a nice album, i would say its a very guitar friendly album, nice to learn and jam to. The guitar solo's are good, some of it are short but still able to project the neccessary mood of the song, of course with the wide range of skills that Tak has,he hasnt got a problem with projecting the mood out. My favourite tracks are track 4 and 11, hahah i dont know the name lolxx, nice guitarwork in them and i like the guitar solo on Roots,i just get so hooked onto the slow arpeggio sweeps at the end of the solo.

some guitar fans might complain that the guitar solos of this album are too short,in fact the songs are quite short.

I wanna say something when I hear people complaining the guitar solos of some guitarists are too short. (I have not heard people complaining about guitar solos of 'Big Machine' album, but I guess there will be some people complaning )

the point of having a guitar solo in a song, is to emphasize the mood of the song, a good guitar solo should be played at the right time and right speed and right length

most of the songs of 'Big Machine' are motivational songs,so the songs sound quite happy, catchy, therefore a long fast guitar solo is not needed.

Tak is not those shred-guitar type of guitarist (but he surely could shred if he wants to), probably do not need a 1 minute high speed shredding guitar solo in each B'z song,Tak is not Yngwie Malmsteen,Joe Satriani..etc..he is Tak,a guitarist who could write good songs, plays great guitar solos at the right time, right speed, and right length.

if you want long guitar solos listen to Tak's solo projects ^_^

my favourite B'z guitar solos are from Motel,The Wild Wind,Raging River

K-3, you're most welcome! ^0^ It's a pure joy to translate Koshi's lyrics, especially when he chooses to be so... so... so... Koshi kekeke. Hmm, why are there so few Koshi's photos in that Nagisa's report? Whoah! Koko driving red convertible! *thumbs up, I wanna ride along to whereever you're going T_T *

I burnt a copy cd of BIG as usual (not wanting to lose my precious real cd), so I put Tak and Koshi's latest solo outings as extras =p Must say that after 149,343 times listening to it, "I'm On Fire" still makes me sit up and listen carefully. yaa that live book almost only consists of backstage pics, i flipped through it a lot at my friend`s place. but i felt also sorry for them cause (like any band I guess) big part of their days on tour means hanging around in some backstage area being bored.

By the way, i forgot to mention 2 people who I think are real hardcore B`z fans.
For once, the colleague of my friend`s dad who got us the tickets and hotel reservation. She goes to every live every tour, I think I mentioned that some long time ago, but she even went there right from the time when B`z had their breakthrough, so for about 15 years ne !
She even goes to the America shows, first row/block tickets always since she built up good connections by now. "A life for B`z" deshou...
According to my friend`s dad she never goes on holidays, saving her days off and $$ for B`z.
The second is a fanboy I saw at the live, who copied Koko by clothes and hairdo, but not only that he had his tattoos ! And those were not the ones you can wash of again, I mean REAL !
cool...

I browse the lyrics book last nite. Darn Koshi, he's too good! Bluesy na Asa is probably written from a woman's point of view. When did he last do this? Easy Come Easy Go? I love the intro of that song, cozy like a slightly cold rainy day. What else, oh, ROOTS has one of the finest Koshi's lyrics ever. And yes! It does remind me of Fuusen! I felt this too when I first listened to it.
Now I'm going nuts over I'm In Love? Really like the bridge part after the solo. Wonderful work. It's like a harder version of Blue Sunshine.
I think the songs arrangement in BIG are more creative so we get to discover more and more new things along the way. Koshi put in a lot of new technique ne. I like the way he goes "YEAH!" "GO" or a scream before Tak's solo. Feels like he's bringing more attention to the solos =p
